Gingerbread Architecture

This week in Makerspace Club we focused on the art of Gingerbread Architecture, creating gingerbread houses based on famous structures and experimenting with edible architectural design.

We also continued working on our video game designs specifically focusing on character design using Piskel to design and animate characters.

Drawing Robots and Video games

In our last meeting before Thanksgiving we worked on creating machines such as drawing robots using LittleBits as well as learning some basics of coding video games as we begin to work on developing our own video game designs for the Scholastic Art & Writing competition which ends on December 15.

Pumpkin Chunkin, Elections, and Electro-Magnets

This week we began with some Pumpkin Chunkin with student made Trebuchets.  the designs were all unique and the distance and height of the pumpkins they tossed varied a great deal.

The distance winners were: Vlad and Dan, the height winners were: Jake and Max, and the unique design winner was: Kevin.

We also held our officer elections and experimented with building basic electro-magnetic devices using nails, magnets, and wine.  The real world applications of this kind of science are extensive with examples like Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS).

Safe Halloween- Spooky Hallways

Today the Makerspace club will meet to prepare for and run a Safe Halloween- Spooky Hallways event in partnership with the Art Honor Society and the Math Honor Society.  We will be encouraging kids do color a pumpkin that then can become virtual thanks to the augmented reality app Quiver. We tested it out in our last Makerspace club meeting and you can see the results above!

We will also be helping kids to launch candy with student created trebuchets and run a spooky computer coded skeleton image that will have a exciting surprise!
